Well, I didn’t bite the kitchen elephant today and maybe I should be doing that than writing the blog, but it was a great day and I can’t keep in the pictures.
I just got home from work. It’s been a long day, but it’s been a fun day. I don’t get many FUN days at work. I decided to bite the elephant tomorrow.
Today, I practiced trusting my guys. Not that I wouldn’t trust them anyway, but today I showed them with action.
I work in a hospital for the Safety Officer. We are in charge of making sure that our associates, patients and visitors are safe. So, today we practiced evacuating patients from floor to floor. What does that mean?
Well, they make these things call Ev@cusleds that you place patients in and take them down the stairwells. There are several different ways to lower the person down the stairs. You can lower the phone with two people. You can lower the person with three people and you can lower the person with one person on the sled and the other on a belay (like rock climbing). Guess which one I did? Yup, the belay.
I’m in the bed, strapped on the sled, good and tight and ready to go. I’m breathing here can you tell? HA
They move me to the floor and look me up to the pull.
Here one of my guys is hooking up so he can drag me down the hall.
And here I am being dragged down the hall. I think this was their favorite part, well maybe it was putting me over the side of the stairs.
One of my guys has hooked me up to the belay and he has anchored the rope around his waste. I am hanging over the edge of the stairs here.
Then I am lowered down the first flight. OH MY GOODNESS. I looked up at one of my guys, Cowboy, and said Do not let me go. And he lowered me down.
They are turning me here and again Cowboy starts to lower me down while Mike holds my head.
It was at this point that I yelled up to Cowboy to let it go faster. It was so much fun. He wouldn’t let me go fast though. Again, other reason I trust my guys with my safety.
And here I am at the bottom about to be unhooked. It was great. I was safely evacuated to the next floor.
One another note, my friend Becca has been in Israel. She and The Boy are the same age, so I’m kind of like a mama figure to her. Anyway, she brought me back a beautiful bible that was covered in Olive Wood, a cross to go on my cross wall and a some holy water. I laugh at this because that is what I asked her for…”Becca bring me back some holy water ok?” She is so funny.
So, because of our training I ended up working late tonight on some books that had to be completed tomorrow.
Tomorrow I have dinner with a group of my girlfriends. It’s her birthday and I love getting together with the girls. Friday I am going to have a facial after work and I’m very very excited about that. The boy and girl gave me a gift certificate for Christmas and I was really excited to receive it.
Then this weekend I am home because The Boy turns 22 years old. I can’t wait to spend the day with him.
I have also schedule my class to for my carry permit. Will I carry? I don’t know, but I really want that option. It’s a right that we have and I’m excited to go through the class.
As you can see, I’m trying to get back into the swing of things. I’m trying to see new things and get out of the rut that I’ve put myself in the past few years. So, I didn’t bit the elephant today, but I’ll be ready to take a bite tomorrow.
